Butler Burrell (2nd Cousin 5 times removed, son of Mark & Hulda Denton Burrell)

Served as a Private in Company F, 1st Regiment South Carolina Calvary, Killed at the battle of Gettysburg in an area known as The Valley of Death, which is between Devils Den and Little Round Top. His brother Bright Burrell of Company F found him mortally wounded and drug him behind a large boulder to protect them both from enemy fire, after Butler died Bright had to leave him wrapped in a saddle blanket to catch up with his Calvary unit. Butler was buried there in an unmarked grave.

Madison was captured by Union troops near Atlanta in June, 1864 and was imprisoned at Camp Douglas, near Chicago, until the end of the war. At the end of the war he was sent by train to Richmond, VA where he was released, from there he walked home to Milton County, GA
