Welcome to my Liveabetes page

I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes a little over 30 years ago, I am at present using Lantus in the morning and the Novolog pen before each meal. I have had a lot of ups and downs with my condition, as a lot of you already know I walk with forearm crutches and use a wheelchair for my long walks due to Neuropathy in all limbs and TIA Strokes that have changed my point of view on a lot of things, my last one was in May and I am doing well now. I have a very supportive family who help me deal with this on a daily basis and friends all over who help us keep it all on track.

A lot of Folks think Diabetes is a death sentence, I beg to differ it will only take you out if you allow it, never be ashamed of what the Good Lord gives you, we are dealing with this condition because we can handle it and it is up to us to teach and learn everything we can about it to keep the Die part out of our condition we have to show that Liveabetic is the name of the condition you can live with.

If you are Recently Diagnosed or have been dealing with Diabetes a while there are going to be a lot of emotions running through your mind, everything from Fear and Denial to Anger, Frustration and Depression, a lot of your loved ones will feel like you are lashing out at them and will be wondering about your mood swings, this is a part of the condition we deal with and we have to learn to control and understand what is going on to take care of it.

Fear and Denial is something we all go through but it does not change the fact that we have to deal with the condition to go on with a somewhat normal lifestyle. Learning the lingo, how to test, inject, pump, ask questions, understand the weird feelings, and explain what you need when you need it and know you have to test so you will know if you need it or not.

Anger and Frustration is a big part of learning to control diabetes, it is common to be mad and want it to go away and frustration in learning how to make everything work sometimes adds to the anger, there is no set answer to this other than it is going to be OK as long as you don't let it control your life, take control by dealing with diabetes, testing your sugars, and taking your meds so that you are in control of it rather than it controlling you.

Depression is a biggie here, we all suffer from a form of it whether we want to admit it or not, that old feeling of helplessness is common and will drive you crazy if you let it, try to stay positive and talk with friends or loved ones about how you feel and if this is not working don't be ashamed to bring it up to your Doctor because it is better to be on another med if need be than to be down in the dumps over something you can control.

There are more people going through this than you know, diabetes doesn't have to be so hard to deal with, ask questions from folks who are going through it too and don't be ashamed to ask for help as we all need it a lot more than we want to admit. I don't have all the answers but am not afraid to reach out and give some advice when I can and ask for advice when I need it.
